Seeing out 2011 with more (weird and wonderful) wedding dress trends for 2012!

You might remember in October I blogged about what the hottest wedding dress trends for 2012 would be. Well, as it’s the last week in 2011, I thought I’d visit a few more wedding dress trends for 2012 that were spotted on the Spring 2012 designer bridal catwalks. These styles, however, may be a little harder to pull off, and definitely aren’t for the faint-hearted! These wedding dresses (and accessories!) are loud, proud and dynamically different. If you want to stand out, and be one fashion step ahead of the rest, then take some inspiration from these weird, wacky and wonderful designs!

Reading the ‘trends’….

To the Future and Beyond!

Check out this thoroughly modern bridal wear if you fancy yourself a princess wedding dresses  futuristic fashionista bride! With pointy sleeves, dramatic collars, and bold shapes, you wouldn’t look out of place in a science fiction movie. The looks that feature wonderful bursts of bright red, plus the cute little shorts and shirt, were designed by Miquel Suay; the silver foil bodice gown was designed by La Boheme; and the model with the fabulous ball of hair sat on top of her head is wearing a gown by Jorge Terra.

How to make this trend more wearable?!

Choose a structured dress with slightly pointed cap sleeves OR summer wedding dresses consider gown alternatives such as cute little shorts, shirts and jackets! Don’t forget to make a statement with some bright colored tights and super styled hair.

Accessories Gone Cuckoo?!

Yes, that is an actual birdcage over the models head! An amusing take on the birdcage veil. I wouldn’t recommend trying to ball gown wedding dresses copy this look on your wedding day – especially not if you actually want your groom to be able to kiss you. I also don’t know any bride who would have wanted to wear a mask on her wedding day, but perhaps the camera and attention shy amongst us would welcome such a look….? These daring accessories are by designer Jorge Terra.

How to make this trend more wearable?!

Well…. just keep it simpler! Fascinators and headpieces are totally in right now, but you don’t need a full on birdcage on your head to rock the trend. Think feathers, flowers and lace – a seriously paired down version of the accessories seen above! And if you’re really into a line wedding dresses masks… well, perhaps a masked ball for your reception party would be more suitable? :-)

Pretty As a Painting

We already knew that color is in.  Designers La Boheme have taken it one step further, and created wedding dresses that look like actual watercolor paintings. I’m not really sure what to make of these, and have strapless wedding dresses to say that some of them do remind me of my grandma’s curtains, or a painting I might have done when I was 5. But if you’re not into the traditional white wedding dress look, then maybe – just maybe – this trend will tickle your fancy. What do you think?

How to make this trend more wearable?!

Ummm…. just go for a regular colored wedding dress!! As in my previous article on wedding dress trends for 2012, blush is super hot for colored wedding dresses 2012, as well as tones of green and grey. Think subtle, soft hues, without the paint!
